Responsible gambling
ParlayCapital Terminal is a research tool. It does not take bets. Research does not remove risk: any bet can lose. Sports betting is not legal in every state, and it is not legal in California. Pick’em contests and prediction markets are also not legal in every state. Bet only where betting is legal, only for entertainment, only with money you can afford to lose, and only if you are 21+ or of legal age for sports betting where you live.
Signs of a problem
- You bet more than you planned, or more than you can afford.
- You bet again to win back what you lost.
- You borrow money, sell things, or skip bills to bet.
- You hide your betting, or lie about it.
- You feel restless or angry when you try to bet less.
- Betting hurts your work, sleep, money, or relationships.
If any of these sound familiar, talk to someone. The help lines below are free and confidential.
Set limits before you bet
- Set a budget for the week or the month. Never bet money for rent, bills, or food.
- Set a time limit, and take breaks.
- Never chase losses. Money you lost is spent. It is not a debt to win back.
- Do not bet when you are upset, stressed, or drinking.
- Use your sportsbook’s own tools: deposit limits, bet limits, time limits, and cool-off periods. Look in your account settings.
Take a break or stop
- Exclude yourself. Licensed sportsbooks let you lock your own account for a set time. Most states with legal sports betting also run a self-exclusion program that covers every licensed book in the state. The help lines below can tell you how to join yours.
- Block gambling sites. BetBlocker (opens in a new tab) is a free app from a registered charity that blocks gambling websites and apps on your phone and computer.
